Chelsea are set to discover the extent of summer signing Romeo Lavia’s ankle injury on Saturday.

Midfielder Lavia had a scan on Friday after hurting himself in training on Thursday when he went over on his ankle following a challenge.

Lavia underwent checks on the problem amid fears he has suffered some level of ligament damage though Chelsea were awaiting the results to learn the full severity of the injury.

The highly-rated 19 year-old joined Chelsea for £58m from Southampton last month and has yet to make his Blues debut.

He has been building up his fitness since his move having not had trained or played much for Southampton before his switch with his future having been up in the air since the south coast side’s relegation last season.

Chelsea will be hoping for good news having already been hit by a number of injury setbacks this season.

They lost defender Wesley Fofana to a long-term knee injury ahead of their pre-season tour to America and defender Trevoh Chalobah and summer arrival Christopher Nkunku during their trip to the States.

Reece James suffered a hamstring issue in training following Chelsea’s season opener against Liverpool and Carney Chukwuemeka a knee injury in the loss at West Ham the following week. 

Mykhailo Mudryk has also been sidelined due to injury but returned to the squad for the defeat against Nottingham Forest last time out.

Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja have yet to feature for Chelsea this season as they recover from their respective hamstring and knee injuries.
